This wall-mount vanity sink is made by hand from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. The exterior has a split-face finish, a rough, textured surface left the way the stone breaks, while the basin and top are honed smooth. It measures 26 inches long, 16 inches wide and 6 inches high, and comes with a matching 6 inch travertine backsplash. Mounted directly on the wall, it gives a floating vanity look with no cabinet below.

Rough edges, smooth basin

The contrast is the point of this sink: a smooth, honed basin and top set against a split-face exterior with depth and a handmade character. The backsplash carries the same idea, with naturally irregular, random-shaped split-face edges that give it an organic outline. Travertine varies in color, veining, texture, pits and mineral movement, and moderate variation is part of every piece. Because the sink is handmade, slight variations in dimensions, color, texture and finish should be expected as well.

Rustic, Mediterranean or organic baths

The warm beige stone and the split texture suit rustic, Mediterranean, organic and traditional bathrooms, and the sink works in homes as well as hospitality bathrooms. Its compact size fits a powder room or a guest bath. The backsplash protects the wall behind the basin and ties the installation together. One faucet hole is pre-drilled for a single-hole faucet.

Prepare the wall first

A wall-mount stone sink is heavy, so the wall needs blocking between the studs at the mounting height before the sink is hung on brackets. Plan the supply lines for the single faucet hole and the drain position before the wall is closed. The sink can also be set on top of a vanity, in which case the top must be flat, level and strong enough for the stone. A professional installer is recommended.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, and acids can etch the honed basin. The split-face texture has more surface for water to reach, and how often the stone is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
