The stone is a deep black crossed by natural white veining, and the sink carries a matching marble backsplash that rises against the wall behind the basin. Hung on the wall, it floats above the floor with no cabinet below, which frees up floor space, makes the floor easier to clean and leaves room for lighting under the sink if wanted. Blocking should be fitted between the studs at the mounting height, ideally while the wall is open, so the brackets have something strong to fix into. The faucet needs to be planned at the same stage: a wall-mounted faucet needs its supply lines inside the wall at the right height above the basin, and a deck faucet needs its position agreed before the sink goes up. If the sink is set above a vanity instead, the top must be flat, level and strong. A professional installer is recommended for the weight and for a clean fit of the drain and supply lines.

Care

This black stone is a porous calcite marble, so acids can etch its polished surface and dull the shine, and sealing slows the absorption of liquids. It should be sealed at installation, and how often it is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used.
