Calacatta Viola Marble Modern Fireplace Mantel 69x50 Polished

Calacatta Viola mantel, 69 by 50

This modern fireplace mantel is made from Calacatta Viola marble with a polished finish. It measures 69 inches (L) by 50 inches (H) with a depth of 6 inches (D). The stone has a white ground with bold gray veining, and because every block is different, each mantel carries its own pattern. The veining is part of the stone's geological formation, not painted on, so no two installations look alike.

Bold veining, clean proportions

The polished surface reflects light, which brings out the depth of the veining and gives the stone movement as the light in the room changes. It is most striking in rooms with large windows or layered lighting. The lines are modern and plain, so the marble itself carries the design. Its deep veining makes a strong contrast against the white ground, and the pattern draws the eye to the fireplace wall. Each mantel is finished by hand with respect for the natural variation of the stone, and moderate variation from one piece to another is normal.

• Polished Calacatta Viola White and gray marble with a reflective polished face.
• Moderate variation Veining and tone differ from block to block.

Scaled for a living room wall

The 69 inch length and 50 inch height give the mantel presence without overwhelming a living room, and the 6 inch depth keeps the profile clean. Those proportions work in a contemporary, minimal room and in a more traditionally furnished one. Designers often choose Calacatta Viola when they want the fireplace to be the first thing people notice, and the plain form leaves the veining to speak.

• Size (L) 69" × (H) 50" × (D) 6", polished marble.
• Style Modern lines that suit minimal and traditional rooms.

Fitting the mantel

Marble is heavy, and this mantel should be installed by a professional who fits it to the fireplace opening and fixes it securely to the wall. Clearances between the stone and the firebox follow the fireplace maker's instructions and local building code. The installer also checks that the mantel sits square to the wall and the hearth. Measuring the opening before ordering helps confirm the fit.

Care

Calacatta Viola is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Like all marble it is porous, so acids can etch it and strong pigments can stain it. Marble is often resealed from time to time, and how often depends on use.
