The top is polished white marble with the soft gray veining Carrara is known for, a focal point that does not need extra styling. It is a 3/4 inch thick slab with eased edges, finished by hand, so each table carries its own natural colour variation. Carrara White is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Polishing makes the surface smoother, but the stone remains porous: acidic drinks and cleaners can etch it and pigments can stain it if left to sit. Sealing helps protect it from stains and keeps its shine, and how often it is resealed depends on use. With care, a marble table can stay in a family for generations.
