Scabos Gold travertine, a wide shallow bowl

This round vessel sink is carved by hand from Scabos Gold travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 18 inches in diameter and 4 inches high: wide enough to read as a sculptural piece on the vanity, and low enough to stay practical for washing hands and faces every day. The stone carries warm gold tones with natural veining, and because each sink is carved individually from its own block, no two are identical. The surface is honed, which keeps the travertine matte and tactile rather than glossy, so the bowl feels grounded and close to the raw stone.

A honed gold bowl with soft curves

Honing leaves the stone smooth to the hand but matte to the eye. Instead of reflecting light like a mirror, the surface shows the travertine itself: its warm gold base, its darker veins and the small natural texture that gives the stone its rustic character. The bowl is round, with smooth curves inside and out and no sharp edges, a shape that is simple to clean around. At 18 inches across and only 4 inches high, the proportions are wide and low, closer to a basin carved from a river stone than to a deep bowl. The drain is finished with a hidden round drain cap that keeps the inside of the bowl clean and uninterrupted. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone, and those differences in tone and veining come from the stone itself, not from any flaw in the workshop.

Warm stone on the vanity

The gold palette works in Mediterranean, modern, transitional and spa-style bathrooms, and it sits well against wood, plaster, terracotta or a pale stone counter. The bowl is installed above the vanity, which makes it easy to pair with an existing cabinet or a custom floating vanity. There are no pre-drilled faucet holes in the sink, so the faucet position is set by the counter or the wall rather than by the stone. That gives full control over spacing and height, which matters with a wide 18 inch bowl. The 1.5 inch drain hole takes standard vessel drain fittings.

Choose the faucet before you cut

As an above-vanity sink, this bowl needs a counter that is flat, level and strong enough to carry solid stone. A drain hole is cut in the counter to line up with the 1.5 inch drain, the drain is fitted, and the bowl is set in silicone. Because the rim stands 4 inches above the counter and the bowl is 18 inches wide, the faucet has to be tall enough to clear the rim and long enough to reach toward the center: a vessel faucet on the deck or a wall-mounted spout. Confirm the faucet height and reach before the counter is cut, not after the sink is in place.

This sink is made to order on two schedules: the 3 to 4 week option ships sooner, while the 8 to 14 week option is the lower-priced choice. Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acidic products can etch the honed surface, and unsealed stone can take up stains from cosmetics, toothpaste and cleaning products. Sealing slows that absorption, and how often the bowl is resealed depends on how much it is used.
