A light beige travertine corner sink

This corner sink is carved by hand from light beige travertine quarried in Turkey, then polished. Every piece is carved individually, so the veining and warm stone tones differ from sink to sink and no two are identical. It measures 15.7 inches on each side and 4 inches high, and it mounts on the wall in the angle of a corner, which puts a working basin in a spot that usually goes unused.

Polished stone, curved edges

The interior and exterior are both polished, which gives the travertine a smooth, reflective surface and brings out its warm tones. The edges are curved, and the basin has no overflow, so there are no awkward corners or openings where grime can build up, and water drains cleanly without pooling. Natural variation in color and veining is part of every piece.

Two walls, one corner

A wall-mount corner sink is supported by the two walls it sits between, so both need solid backing. Blocking between the studs at the mounting height is easiest to add while the walls are open, and the sink is then fixed on brackets. Plan the faucet, usually wall-mounted for a corner basin, together with the supply lines and drain before the walls are closed. A professional installer is recommended because travertine is heavy for its size.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acidic or harsh cleaners can etch its polished surface. It is resealed periodically, every year or two depending on use.
