This round pedestal sink is carved from a single block of red travertine by artisans in Turkey. It measures 18 inches wide, 18 inches long and 33 inches high, a clean cylindrical form that gives the room architectural presence without taking over the floor. The honed finish shows the natural depth of the travertine, with warm peachy-rose tones and organic surface variation. It is solid stone throughout, with no hollow sections, so the basin and the column are one continuous piece.

The shape is simple: a round basin that continues straight down into a cylindrical column. That clean line lets the stone carry the design. The honed surface is smooth and matte, which brings out the warm red and rose tones and the natural texture of the travertine. Over time, travertine develops character, with subtle color shifts and natural pitting, and a patina that deepens with years of use. Moderate color variation between pieces is normal, and the tone of each sink is its own.

Check the floor first

A stand-alone sink rests its full weight on the floor, and solid travertine is heavy. The floor must be level and strong enough to carry it, which is worth checking before delivery. Supply and drain lines come either from the wall behind the sink or up through the floor, and their position should be set to match the drain before the finished surfaces go in. The cylindrical column hides much of the plumbing, keeping a clean sightline from the front and the sides. A wall-mounted faucet is a natural choice above the basin. A professional installer is recommended.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acidic products such as vinegar or citrus can etch the honed surface. Sealing protects it, and how often it is resealed depends on use, typically every one to two years.
