Polished white marble freestanding tub

This freestanding bathtub is sculpted from a single solid block of white marble quarried in Turkey and polished by hand. Because it is carved from one block, each tub is unique, with its own veining and its own subtle shifts in color. It measures 32 inches wide, 73 inches long and 24 inches high, a generously proportioned soaking tub made for deep, unhurried baths rather than a quick wash.

The tub is a single piece of white marble, carved and then polished to a smooth gloss that brings out the veining and gives the surface a soft shine. The outline is simple and sculptural, so the stone itself carries the design. A white marble tub sits comfortably in a bathroom that leans contemporary and minimal as well as in one that is classical and traditional, and it works as the anchor of the room around which tile, fittings and lighting are chosen. Natural veining and color differ from block to block, and moderate variation between tubs is normal for this stone.

Deep and long enough to stretch

At 73 inches long and 24 inches high, the tub allows full length soaking with real depth, and the 32 inch width gives room to move. Marble works as a thermal mass: once the bath water has warmed the stone, the stone gives that warmth back, so the bath stays comfortable for longer without constant refilling with hot water. The walls range from 0.75 to 1.25 inches thick, which gives the tub structure against the combined load of water and bather. The tub comes with a pre drilled 1.5 inch drain hole, and the drain, faucet, overflow and mounting parts are chosen separately, so the fittings can match the finishes already in the bathroom or a future renovation.

Assess the floor first

The weight of a solid marble tub calls for a proper structural assessment before delivery: the floor must carry the tub full of water and in use, and a contractor should confirm it. The plumber positions the drain to meet the 1.5 inch opening and runs supply for either a floor mounted filler or a wall mounted faucet. Professional installation is recommended. The tub ships in a heavy duty wooden crate with internal supports, which protects it in transit and should stay closed until the installers are ready to set it.

Care

This is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Like all marble it is porous, so acidic products can etch the polish and strong colors can stain it if they sit. Periodic resealing keeps the finish protected, and how often it is needed depends on how much the tub is used. With care, the polished surface keeps its shine for decades.
