Prepare floor and plumbing

A solid marble tub is heavy, and the floor must carry it when it is full of water and in use, so a contractor should confirm the structure before the tub is delivered. The plumber sets the drain to meet the 1.5 inch opening and runs the supply for either a floor mounted tub filler or a wall mounted faucet. The drain, faucet, overflow and mounting ring are sold separately and are best chosen before installation day. The tub ships in a reinforced wooden crate. Professional installation is recommended given the weight of the stone and the plumbing connections. Once the tub is set and connected, it is leveled so the water runs cleanly to the drain, and the stone is sealed before its first use if it has not been sealed already.

Care

Statuario is a calcite marble with a polished surface. Like all marble it is porous, so acidic products such as lemon or vinegar can etch the polish, and oils or colored soaps can stain if they sit. Resealing protects the stone against moisture and staining, and how often it is needed depends on how much the tub is used.
