The Valencia is a rectangular vessel sink carved from beige travertine quarried in Turkey. It measures 16 inches wide, 20 inches long and 6 inches high, and it joins a clean, minimal shape with the warmth of natural stone. The inside of the basin is honed smooth, while the outside is sandblasted to a textured surface that catches the light and shows the character of the travertine. No two pieces are identical: the color, striations and veining vary from sink to sink, so each one is its own piece, and the stone develops a patina with time rather than wearing out.

Honed inside, sandblasted outside

The two finishes each have a job. The honed interior is smooth and matte, comfortable under the hands, and soap and water move easily across it. The sandblasted exterior has a soft, grainy texture that gives the sides depth and makes the sink read as a carved object rather than a plain basin. The contrast between the two is enough on its own, so the sink needs no other decoration. The rectangular form keeps straight, simple lines, which suits contemporary bathrooms, spa-inspired rooms and transitional designs. Moderate color variation between pieces is normal for this stone, and fine scratches and wear over the years become part of the patina instead of signs of damage. Travertine also handles heat and changes in water temperature well.

A simple upgrade for a vanity

As a vessel sink, the Valencia sits on top of the counter and needs only a single drain hole. There is no large cutout to make, which keeps it compatible with many existing vanities and makes it a practical choice for a targeted bathroom update rather than a full renovation. Raising the basin above the counter also frees cabinet space below, which counts in a powder room or small bath where storage is tight. At 16 by 20 inches, the basin is roomy without taking over the vanity. The 4 cm drain hole fits standard drain fittings. The warm beige pairs with wood, white plaster, matte black or brass hardware.

One hole in a flat counter

The counter must be flat, level and strong, because solid travertine is heavy. A drain hole is cut through the counter to line up with the 4 cm drain, and the sink is set in a bead of silicone that holds it and seals the joint. The rim stands 6 inches above the counter, so the faucet has to reach over it: a tall deck-mounted vessel faucet or a wall-mounted spout. Choose the faucet before cutting the counter, so the faucet hole and drain are placed together.

Care

Travertine is a porous calcite stone, so acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch the honed basin, and sealing keeps moisture and stains out. How often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
