A carved marble sink for the corner

This corner sink is carved by hand from a single block of Calacatta Viola marble quarried in Turkey. It measures 16 inches wide, 24 inches long and 4 inches high, and it is made to hang on the wall in a corner, where most fixtures waste space. The stone has a cream base with gray veining that varies across every surface, so each sink is different from the next. It is solid natural stone, not a printed pattern, and it is made to be used every day for decades.

Cream marble, polished all over

Each sink is cut individually by stone workers from one block, so the veining, the tone of the cream base and the depth of the gray lines change from piece to piece. Variation is moderate, and the pattern on a delivered sink will differ from the product images. The finish is polished inside and out, which deepens the colour, brings out the veining and gives the stone a smooth, glossy surface. Solid marble does not deform over time. The edges are curved and the inside is smooth, with no crevices that are hard to reach, which keeps cleaning simple. Because it is carved rather than cast, the wall thickness can vary slightly with the composition of the marble; that small variation is a sign of real stone.

Space saved in a corner

A corner sink makes sense in small bathrooms, powder rooms and guest baths where the layout is tight. The cream and gray stone is a neutral base for almost any fittings: slim modern taps in black or chrome, or vintage brass for a warmer room. The drain opening is 1.5 inches and works with standard bathroom drain parts, so the drain and faucet can be chosen freely.

Back the corner before tiling

Solid marble is heavy, and a corner sink hangs from two walls. Both walls need blocking between the studs at the mounting height, added while they are open and before tile goes on. The sink has no deck for a faucet, so a wall-mounted faucet is usually set above it, and its position should be planned with the drain and supply lines. The sink arrives crated and ready for professional installation. The drain assembly, faucet, overflow parts and mounting hardware are sourced separately, so each can be chosen to suit the room. Care

Calacatta Viola is a porous calcite marble. Acids such as vinegar or lemon juice can etch a polished surface, and periodic resealing keeps up the barrier against moisture and stains. How often depends on use, and the polished face develops a patina over time.
