A compact Carrara White wall sink

This rectangular wall-mount sink is carved by hand from Carrara White marble quarried in Turkey. It measures 14 inches wide, 18 inches long and 5 inches high, a compact size for a powder room, a guest bath or a narrow wall. Every stone sink is one of a kind: the mineral inclusions and veining cannot be reproduced, and even two basins carved from the same block will differ. The stone has a soft white background with delicate gray linear veining, the look that defines Carrara, and it sits as comfortably in a contemporary bathroom as in a traditional one.

Polished white with soft edges

The interior and exterior are both polished, giving the marble a glossy, almost mirror-like surface that catches the light and shows the depth of the stone. A polished face also holds less dirt than a textured one, so the sink stays clean longer between wipes. The edges are curved and finished by hand, with no sharp corners to knock against and nothing for grime to cling to. The rectangle itself is simple and clean, which keeps attention on the white stone and its fine gray lines. Moderate color variation between sinks is normal for this stone, so the exact tone and the placement of the veins will differ on every piece. Marble also handles the shift between hot and cold water well, so the stone takes daily use without strain.

On the wall or on a vanity

Mounted on the wall, the sink floats above the floor. The open space underneath makes a small bathroom look larger, leaves the floor easy to clean, and allows the sink to be hung at whatever height suits the household. It also leaves room for lighting under the basin. The same sink can sit above a vanity instead, where it reads as a low rectangular vessel. It is listed for kitchen use as well as for the bathroom, which makes it a good fit for a bar or a small prep area too. The basin arrives without a pre-drilled faucet hole, so the faucet placement is open: a single-hole faucet, a two-handle set or a wall-mounted system all work, in brass, black or chrome.

Plan the wall and the faucet

Even a compact marble sink is heavy, so a wall mount needs solid backing. Before the sink is hung, the wall should have blocking between the studs at the mounting height, which is easiest to add while the wall is open. With no faucet hole in the stone, a wall-mounted faucet is the usual choice, and its supply lines need to be run to the right height before the wall is closed. If the sink goes on a vanity, the top must be flat, level and strong, with a drain hole cut to match, and a deck faucet can be mounted on the counter beside it. A professional installer is recommended for the weight and to line up the drain and supply lines.

Care

Carrara White is a calcite marble and naturally porous. Polishing closes the surface and makes it less absorbent, but acids such as vinegar or lemon can still etch the shine. Whether and how often it is resealed depends on how much the sink is used.
