A 48 inch fluted white marble sink

This wall-mount sink is carved by hand from white Carrara marble quarried in Turkey. It is 48 inches long, 18 inches wide and 10 inches high, with a backsplash carved into the back edge and a fluted front. Basin, counter surface and backsplash come from one piece of stone, so the sink reads as a single carved object on the wall rather than an assembly of parts. The polished marble catches light and makes a modest bathroom feel brighter. Each sink shows its own veining and slight color shifts, and no two pieces repeat.

Fluted front, polished white stone

The finish is polished on the visible surfaces, which brings out the white ground of the marble and the soft gray veining that runs through it. Polishing also gives the stone a smooth, closed surface that is easy to wipe down. The front is fluted: vertical channels carved into the stone that give the long face rhythm and shadow, and keep 48 inches of white marble from looking flat. Inside, the basin is curved, which helps water run toward the drain instead of pooling and leaves fewer places for soap and mineral deposits to build up. Along the back, the backsplash rises from the same block, so the veining carries from the counter surface up the wall and there is no seam to caulk between them. This is model WM4750R, a modern design with clean lines and a long, low profile. Because the veining is natural, the exact pattern, tone and spacing of the gray lines will differ on every sink, and moderate color variation between pieces is normal for this stone.

Two ways to mount it

Hung directly on the wall, the sink needs no cabinet below, which opens up the floor, makes a small bathroom feel larger and makes the whole room easier to clean. With 48 inches of stone, there is room beside the basin for everyday items, and the backsplash keeps water off the wall. The same sink can also be installed above an existing vanity, which keeps storage underneath. The polished white marble sits well with modern fittings in chrome or nickel and equally with brass in a more traditional room. The sink has a standard 1.5 inch drain hole that fits common drain assemblies.

Plan the wall before it arrives

A 48 inch piece of solid marble carries real weight, and the wall has to be ready for it. Blocking between the studs at the mounting height, across the full length of the sink, gives the brackets something solid to hold, and it is simplest to add while the wall is open. The faucet should be chosen at the same stage. A wall-mounted faucet keeps the counter clear, and its supply lines need to be roughed in at the right height before the wall is finished. If the sink goes on top of a vanity instead, the cabinet must be flat, level and strong along its length. Professional installation is recommended so the weight is carried properly and the drain and supply lines connect securely.

Care

This is a calcite marble, so it is porous: acids can etch the polished surface and strong pigments can stain it if left to sit. Sealing keeps moisture at the surface, and how often the sink is resealed depends on how much the bathroom is used, often about once a year.
